National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority participates in G20 process in India
An NCEMA delegation headed by Fahed Buti Almheiri, Director of the Safety and Prevention Department, is participating in the G20 process in Gujarat State in India.
NCEMA's participation in the G20's disaster risk reduction area aims to highlight the UAE's efforts and achievements in implementing the Sendai Framework, present best practices in the country through this global platform, and contribute to the formulation of outputs and directives among G20 countries in the field of disaster risk reduction. NCEMA also aims to highlight the UAE's preparations to host COP28 and promote climate action while exchanging experiences and bolstering international cooperation in this regard.
During the meeting, the Indian Presidency outlined the G20’s course of action guided by five priorities that include global coverage of early warning systems, disaster-resilient infrastructure, supportive financial frameworks and systems for disaster risk reduction, as well as response, recovery and building back better. The G20 Presidency has also noted the importance of an integrated ecosystem for disaster risk reduction and its contributions to regional and international strategies on the proper handling of disasters and crises.
In the coming period, the Republic of India will submit a detailed report on the outcomes of the meeting and prepare an action plan to be addressed in May and July to reach a roadmap agreed upon by G20 countries according to these priorities. The Indian Presidency will announce the final recommendations during the 18th G20 Summit, which will be held in September 2023 in New Delhi.
