NCEMA plants Ghaf tree to celebrate “year of tolerance”

Director General of the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management (NCEMA) Jamal Mohamed Al Hosani has taken part in the authority’s celebration to mark the “year of tolerance”.

During the celebration that was attended by a number of department heads and employees, a Ghaf tree, which was chosen as the official symbol of the Year of Tolerance 2019, was planted.

It was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, that the Ghaf tree was chosen as it represents principles of tolerance, coexistence and diversity.

Al Hosani said that the declaration of the president His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of 2019 as the "Year of Tolerance" is based on one of the principles the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan established among the people of the UAE.

Shaikh Zayed has always stressed that Islam is a religion of mercy, tolerance and co-existence, Al Hosani added, pointing out that tolerance is now associated with the UAE, the country where there is no difference between people and the welfare of citizens and residents are given significant attention.

He noted that the Ghaf tree is part of the valuable heritage reflecting a civilization that always sought to spread the spirit of co-existence among members of the Emirati community. The Ghaf represents stability, co-existence and unity of the UAE connected society, Al Hosani underscored.

The UAE local and international efforts in the fields of tolerance and giving was reflected in the country’s rank in the World Happiness Report, he said, pointing out that UAE was ranked first in the Arab region in the World Happiness Report for the fifth consecutive year.

At a time when the world is facing political and economic challenges, UAE has become an attraction for minds, thinkers, traders and capitals thanks to the quality of life and well-being seen in the country as well as stability, NCEMA Director General said.

By the end of the ceremony, Ghaf trees were given to employees who expressed their happiness for taking part in the event.
