Statement Of Chairman Of The National Emergency, Crisis And Disaster Management Authority Of The Occasion Of The International Day For Disaster Reduction
On the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, held this year under the theme “Invest in Resilience, Not in Disasters,” we reaffirm the United Arab Emirates’ unwavering commitment to building a resilient society, one that is adaptive to change, confident in its path, and firmly grounded in sustainable development.
The UAE has solidified its standing within the global disaster risk reduction platform through its pivotal role in advancing multilateral cooperation and contributing to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. The UAE continues to play an active part in the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, the G20 and BRICS working groups on disaster risk management, and the Arab Group for Disaster Risk Reduction, among other regional and international initiatives. These collective efforts reflect the UAE’s dedication to strengthening international coordination and forging strategic partnerships that protect people and the environment while advancing global resilience and sustainable growth.
Guided by the vision of its leadership, the UAE continues to develop an integrated national system for emergency, crisis, and disaster management, anchored in proactive planning, institutional coordination, and investment in national capabilities. The country also works closely with regional and international partners to enhance training, exchange expertise, and adopt leading practices in preparedness and readiness.
This year’s theme underscores a global shift in mindset from reacting to disasters after they occur, to investing in prevention and resilience before they strike. The true strength of any nation lies not only in how swiftly it responds to crises, but in how effectively it anticipates and mitigates them.
Our observance of this day reaffirms the UAE’s enduring commitment to supporting national and global efforts that enhance preparedness, reduce risk, safeguard lives and assets, and contribute to building a safer and more sustainable future for all.
