About CEMS

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has announced that it will be hosting the Crisis and Emergency Management Summit 2023 (CEMS), under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor. The summit will be held on May 9th to 10th in Abu Dhabi and will discuss emergency, crisis and disaster management mechanisms that raises the readiness of the emergency and crisis system and unify global efforts in the sector, in addition to highlighting the future of the sector during the time of increasing threats and risks around the world, as well as current vital issues.

The first edition of CEMS kicked off in 2008, and through its editions, until 2019, it formed a leading and unique position at the international level as it is the first event of its kind in the Gulf region and the Middle East that discusses the field of emergency and crisis management.

This year's edition differs from all previous editions by transforming it into a major summit centered on uniting global efforts and advancing strategic and operational discussions that leave an impact on its attendees and visitors. 

The field of emergency, crisis and disaster management is one of the most important fields in the world due to its generality and diversity of intersecting sectors in the system of emergencies, crises and disasters. Therefore, the Crisis and Emergency Management Summit attracts many specialists and experts in the field of emergency, crisis and disaster management from various government agencies, international organizations, representatives from governments and ambassadors, in addition to experts and military personnel. And all those of relevance in various fields.

The upcoming summit is a global platform with a large international participation that recognizes the importance of continuously developing the emergency, crisis, and disaster management landscape. This gathering is significant because of the current technological innovations including the advancement of artificial intelligence systems, solutions, and digital platforms.

The summit aims to strengthen partnerships, encourage international cooperation, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise related to emergencies, crises, and disasters.

The summit will address the most pressing global challenges and trends in the field while promoting the adoption of best international practices, including forecasting and predicting future risks to improve global responses to crises and cross-border emergencies. The event will highlight national capabilities, specialized personnel, and the outstanding Emirati model for emergency, crisis, and disaster management, which will further enhance the UAE’s reputation globally.

The summit will explore the roles of all institutions, including the private sector and civil society, in managing emergencies and crises including the challenges and repercussions.

It also contributes to allowing local and national institutions to acquire knowledge and experiences from the rest of the world, giving these institutions the opportunity to present their ideas and discuss them with international experts.

 

The Crisis & Emergency Management Summit - Abu Dhabi 2023 aims to:

- Create a global platform to strengthen partnerships and international cooperation, share experiences in the field of emergency, crisis and disaster management, and discuss key global challenges and trends.

- Consolidate resilience by highlighting best global practices in emergency, crisis and disaster management.

- Foreseeing and assessing possible future risks and overviewing possible developments to strengthen the global preparedness and response to transboundary crises and emergencies through a synchronized and coordinated international cooperative approach.

- Reflect the UAE’s position and highlight national capacities, specialized cadres and the unique UAE emergency and crisis management model.

 

The Crisis & Emergency Management Summit, in its seventh round, will cover the following themes:
